Men want what they want.

So much of our culture caters to giving men what they want. A high school student invites model Kate Upton to attend his prom, and he’s congratulated for his audacity. A male fan at a Beyoncé concert reaches up to the stage to slap her ass because her ass is there, her ass is magnificent, and he wants to feel it. The science fiction fandom community is once again having a heated discussion, across the Internet, about the ongoing problem of sexual harassment at conventions — countless women are telling all manner of stories about how, without their consent, they are groped, ogled, lured into hotel rooms under false pretenses, physically lifted off the ground, and more.

But men want what they want. We should all lighten up.

It’s hard not to feel humorless as a woman and a feminist, to recognize misogyny in so many forms, some great and some small, and know you’re not imagining things. It’s hard to be told to lighten up because if you lighten up any more, you’re going to float the fuck away. The problem is not that one of these things is happening, it’s that they are all happening, concurrently and constantly.

These are just songs. They are just jokes. They are just movies. It’s just a hug. They’re just breasts. Smile, you’re beautiful. Can’t a man pay you a compliment? In truth, this is all a symptom of a much more virulent cultural sickness — one where women exist to satisfy the whims of men, one where a woman’s worth is consistently diminished or entirely ignored.

Let us take a moment to observe the awesomeness of octopus.

My buddy read an article about octopus intelligence. It was feeding time, and the handler dumped some shrimp into an octopus’ tank. Then he went into another room and sat at his desk.

A while later, a shrimp was tossed onto his desk.

The octopus, upon finding one bad shrimp in the lot, had grabbed it, escaped its tank, crossed the hall, and threw the expired shrimp at its caretaker. Not only does this showcase their problem-solving capabilities, but also that it could have escaped at any time. It just broke out this time to chuck an off shrimp in indignation at its handler. That’s not just intelligence, that’s a human-like reaction. Kinda make you wonder exactly how smart these guys can be…

I, for one, welcome our new cephalopod overlords.

Hey guys,

I think this photo is so important. So many people think rabbits are just a fluffy animal for them to carry around like a teddy, and think they’re really cheap and easy to look after. Definitely some very important facts that everyone should know.

And dont bathe rabbits either, it can kill them of the stress it causes

I never knew stress could kill bunnies, passing this along

y’all listen up, with easter coming this is important.

for real

As a bunny owner…yes!!

Also, they need huge cages. Like, something at LEAST six times the length of the rabbit if not an ENTIRE ROOM.

It was already briefly mentioned but it’s worth saying again, rabbits don’t need to be bathed. You also should not put your bunny on it’s back, should not house it with guinea pigs or other small mammals, and should not keep them outdoors.

True gender equality is actually perceived as inequality. A group that is made up of 50% women is perceived as being mostly women. A situation that is perfectly equal between men and women is perceived as being biased in favor of women.
And if you don’t believe me, you’ve never been a married woman who kept her family name. I have had students hold that up as proof of my “sexism.”
My own brother told me that he could never marry a woman who kept her name because “everyone would know who ruled that relationship.” Perfect equality – my husband keeps his name and I keep mine – is held as a statement of superiority on my part.

When you stop seeing other animals as here for us to use and exploit, you’ll find it a lot easier to stop eating their flesh, milk, and eggs…and once you do, not only are you rejecting violence towards other animals but you are embracing a lifestyle that is softer and kinder to the planet as well. Here are 7 reasons vegans help the planet, courtesy of former advocacy intern Brooke Biddlecombe:

Aw, don’t fall off!

Dogs and cats are individuals. They’re our friends. Some of us even consider them family. They’ve come out of the wild and into our living rooms, an extraordinary evolutionary and sociological journey that now raises profound questions about what it means to be a person.

Why is horseshoe crab blood so vital to pharmaceuticals?
Every drug certified by the FDA must be tested with an extract from the animal’s blood, but the biomedical harvest is affecting horseshoe crab populations.

Isn’t that horrifying.
